First Look At Link-Belt’s New 65-Ton 65RT Rough Terrain Crane

Link-Belt recently unveiled its new 65-ton (60-metric-ton) 65RT rough terrain crane, the successor to its dependable RTC-8065 Series II model. The 2-axle model debuted at Link-Belt’s CraneFest event in Lexington, Kentucky.

“Overall, the 65RT offers a new level of reliability and performance with the same level of precise control and capacity to which our customers have become accustomed,” says Link-Belt Rough Terrain Cranes Product Manager Kelly Fiechter. “The changes are a reflection of current industry standards with many of these new features also found on other rough terrain cranes in our product line.”

Link-Belt 65RT Specifications

The new 65RT rough terrain crane has a 4-section, full-power, greaseless telescopic boom that can extend from 38 to 115 feet (11.6 to 35 meters). The boom uses a new hydraulic extension system that Link-Belt says is more reliable and easier to service.

Lattice inserts can extend the 65RT’s maximum tip height to 211.6 ft (64.5 m). There’s also an optional, 2-piece, manually offsettable fly jib that doesn’t reduce the crane’s lift capacity when stowed. When fully equipped (including counterweight) and ready to work, its transport weight is under 92,000 pounds (41,730 kilograms).

The 65RT uses a 270-horsepower (201-kilowatt), 6.7-liter, Tier 4 Final Cummins diesel engine and a new Dana 6-speed transmission. The crane travels on a greaseless, 4-link suspension. An optional hydro-gas suspension is available for a smoother off-road ride. The crane’s filters and service points are easy to access, and its pontoons are serviceable.

Inside The 65RT Cab

The new 65RT’s AM/FM radio features Bluetooth device connectivity and NOAA weather channel support. Air conditioning, time-delayed wipers, and an internal-rated capacity limiter light bar come standard. The hydraulic controllers are single- or dual-axis.

Visibility features include oversized windows and backlit switches and gauges. The standard Link-Belt Vision Package includes bright LED lighting and cameras for winch, swing, and rear views.

The 65RT comes with the Link-Belt Pulse crane operating system and the CALC (Confined Area Lifting Capacities) feature for assistance in tight operating spaces.
